If you have been taking classes at the Nazeem Allayl Studio and have toyed with the thought of one day performing, we have a fabulous opportunity to strut your stuff!

Twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, the Nazeem Allayl Studios puts on two back-to-back Fabulous Studio Shows featuring the troupe members of Nazeem Allayl, Nazeem Almassah, & Nazeem Alsabah as well as groups of beginners and intermediate student dancers! These are really awesome shows that give us, both teachers and students, a chance to showcase everything that we have been working on to the public. It's a chance for our friends, family members & fans to come see us perform in a large scale full production show of all shows. You can't miss it, especially if you have the opportunity to be a part of this spectacular event!.

Group Assignments for Saturday vs. Sunday Show

Note - there are two days of show, Saturday & Sunday October 19+20, 2013.

We will have a total of four groups, with an equal number of students perform each dance on each day, so we will have four groups total: 2x Banadeek Ta'la and 2x Put Saran De - One pair for Saturday, one pair for Sunday.
Please read carefully: No matter which studio you're taking class in or learn the dance, you can perform either dance or both.

Dates of Workshops: (watch times & location)
Note: While not required, it is highly recommended to take the workshop even if you already learned the dance in a 5-week course - to refresh your memory and that way we all learned the dance the same way from the same instructor.

  • Bus to the Balkans (Interm)
    Saturday, Sept. 7th, 1-4pm @ L5P Studio
  • Turkish Drum Solo (Beginner)
    Sunday, Sept 8th, 1-4pm @ PTC Studio
Cost/Workshop: $45 walk-in, $35 early bird, $19 refresher rate if you previously learned that dance in a six-week session, an additional 20% off if you take both.

New Location: Cecil Hall at Mercer University: Raised stage and theater seating

MEETING FOR ALL INTERESTED STUDENT DANCERS!

Signup Meeting for the Show:
  • Sunday, Sept 8th, 4:30-6pm @ PTC Studio (Turkish DS + Bus 2 Balkans)

Costume Note: If you want to have first dibs on colors and sizes, bring cash and take your costume home w/ you on that night. If you want to pay via check, that is great too, but we will have to wait for the check to clear before you can take your new costume home. To be consistent, those that paid cash will have first dibs on costume colors once delayed costume pieces arrive.

THE COSTUMES!

Note: The costumes can be purchased with a discounted ticket option, where for $30, performers get a voucher for $60 worth of tickets. The discounted ticket price is for performers only, and limited to the $60 worth of tickets for $30 option, no other variation. You can buy more tickets are the regular price. • A coordinated pair of shoes is used for the outfits. A one-time investment.

PRACTICE AT THE STUDIO!

And... last, but definitely the most important part, the PRACTICES! Below is the complete studio practice schedule for the Student Groups. As a student dancer, you will be REQUIRED TO ATTEND ONE WEEKLY PRACTICE AT THE STUDIO with your group and to practice extensively at home on your own. As you can see below there are separate times for the different dances. The dancers will be (self) assigned to a group at the inital meeting. You will only be required to come to the practice for your group.

Just to be very clear: you will be required to come to (see dates below)
  • Initial Sign Up Meeting
  • Staging of your dance group
  • Every practice (!) at your group's assigned time at the studio
  • Dress rehersal (last practice) at your group's assigned time at the studio
  • Saturday Show groups: Setup & Breakdown before/after the show
  • Sunday Show groups: Setup & Breakdown before/after the show

Important:

You will be expected to be on time and to stay the entire time of each activity. Do not commit to being in this show if you can not guarantee that your schedule will allow you to attend ALL activities. THERE ARE NO EXCUSES OR EXCEPTIONS WHATSOEVER.

If you miss a practice and/or are more than 15 minutes late for whatever reason,
you will be staged out of the dance, and you will not perform. No refunds.

I know this sounds harsh, but this is the only way to ensure that everyone is treated fairly & equally. This also ensures that all of our valuable time is used as constructively as possible. We have very little time to prepare you to be as fabulous as you possibly can be. The members of the Nazeem Allayl Studios' staff give their valuable time to your group, and everyone in the group is expected to take full advantage of it - hence not allowing anyone to be absent or more than 15 minutes late.

Practice Schedule:

Subject to change, please check back frequently to verify times/locations.

Frequent Questions

Q: Can I be in multiple groups, i.e. Beginner and Intermediate?
A: Yes, you can

Q: I am new to the studio. I don't know the choreography being performed yet. Can I still be in the Show?
A: Yes, but only if you take the one day workshop scheduled before the show that teaches the choreography you want to perform. And, yes you will be fabulous.

Q: Are there tryouts? I am not sure if I am good enough ...
A: No tryouts, any current student can perform, and you will be fabulous.

Q: I think I am tall/short/big boned/skinny/young/old, can I still perform?
A: Yes - everyone can perform. And, yes you will be fabulous.

Q: I can make all but one of the practices, can I still perform?
A: No. You miss any scheduled practice, and you are out.

Q: My schedule requires that I have to come 20 minutes late to one/some practices, can I still perform?
A: No, 15 minutes late and you are out.

Q: What happends if there is an emergency and I am late/miss a practice, can I still perform?
A: No. You miss any scheduled practice, and you are out.

Q: Isn't that a little too harsh? Miss one/late and you are out...
A: No. We will have 300 paying guests, who expect a good show. We have only 3 practices, one staging, one dress rehearsal, and the setup for a total of 6 meetings within a 7 week window to get ready for this show. There is no time for "late", there is no way to reschedule, leaving us with no other option.

Q: So you talk tough, but then make exceptions?
A: No. Absolutely not. The rules are the same for everyone - Schadia, She'nez, etc. right on down to the most beginner student we have. Everyone is treated equally - no exceptions. Period.

Q: So you staged me out of the show because I could not make/was late to a practice. Can I get a refund on the costume/tickets?
A: No. These are special order, often to your size, and now used.

Q: When do the tickets go on sale?
A: Tickets go on sale at about a month before the show, the exact date is announced via email and the website. See above for the exact procedure and timeline of the ticket sales.

Q: Can I get a refund on the tickets (like if I am staged out of the show)?
A: No. But most likely other students will be more than happy to buy your tickets.

Q: Can my guest videotape my performance?
A: No. The choreographies are copyright protected by us. But we do videotape the show, which is for sale about 2 weeks after the show at the studio on a DVD w/menus and the proper copyright.

Q: Can they take pictures of me?
A: Not this time. Consumer camera's flash is not strong enough for the big stage, and only disturbs the video. Often, people stand up or hold a camera above their head to take a picture, which never looks good and always blocks someone elses view. We have an official photographer taking pictures and we post them on the website for you after the show.

Q: Do little children need tickets too?
A: Yes. And please make sure your guests are aware of this and don't bring babies without having a ticket for them. It breaks my heart to have to send them home. There is no room for "sitting on the lap". No exceptions.

Q: I want to be staged so that I perform in front of my guests from my good side. Can you accomodate that?
A: No. Too many changes will happen during the staging and later on to even consider such a request.

Q: Since the shows are now at a new location, which seats are the best?
A: Seat prices depend on how close to the stage you are and/or the angle of the view. The ticket price is the best indicator for the quality of the seat.
