Aseelah Drum Solo

Aseelah Drum is, as the name implies, a drum solo, choreographed by Aseelah. A drum solo is typically a shorter dance, performed at the end of a performance, and is very energetic. In a middle eastern band, the main drummer is the most important person, kind of like the first violin in a western orchestra. Thus in a drum solo, only the drum is playing, and the drummer and the dancer interact with each other, the dancer interpreting the drum, and the drummer following the cues of the dancer.

In reality, it is rare that a dancer has access to a master drummer. Most of the time, the dancer will dance to recorded music, which allows her to use choreography. Still, the drum solo is used by the dancer to showcase her skills, and usually involves many shimmies as can be seen in this video clip.
