The Nazeem Allayl Studio provides its students and troupe members with
numerous performance opportunities:
|
Haflas, or Arabic Dance parties, are the easiest way to get your
feet wet. We have the lights dim, you can bring your own non-alcoholic
drinks and food, and you are guaranteed to have a great time.
It's
ladies only in the audience, only fellow students and female friends,
and we simply play song after song and watch dance after dance, and at
the end we all get up and dance club style.
There are no auditions, and pretty much anything goes - students can
get their first performance experience, and troupe members can show
you what they are currently working on. The quality of the
performances is erratic, as we never know what comes up next.

Auditions details
|
No audition, you just come and sign in for a slot and hand over your
music on a CD (limit 4min) to the DJ. You can change at the studio.
You can perform your own dance or one of our studio choreographies.

Amateur nights take place at partner restaurants. No reservations
required, no cover charge. The restaurants requires a minimum
consumption/person, typically $10. The restaurant might offer a special
menu, which typically includes a choice of vegetarian, chicken, and meat
dishes. Shows are short, about 30min to an hour. The quality of the
performances is mixed, as some students dance for the first time.

STT nights are a hybrid - more serious than a Amateur night, less
formal than a studio show. The setting in the past has varied from
restaurants to performance venues such as the Red Light Cafe (RLC). The
quality of the performances is high.

Studio shows are a combination of a traditional recital with
performances from beginner student groups from our various studios, our
intermediate students, our three troupes, and our teachers. The setting
is formal with assigned seating, and the quality of the performances
is extremely high.

Performance Opportunities for Troupe Members:
The troupe haflas are where the troupe members dance for each
other. No guests are allowed, which means a very relaxed atmosphere
and by its nature a small crowd. We use the troupe hafla to
demonstrate to each other the projects we are working on, to get
feedback and suggestions, to find dance partners for new projects, to
get to know new troupe members, and in general to keep in touch with
each other.
