Nazeem Alsabah Auditions

Details:

What:Information Meeting
Time:8-10pm
Date:Friday, March 20th, 2009
Location:Perimeter Studio

The Nazeem Allayl Dance Organization is holding "Open" Auditions for it's Amateur Dance Company, Nazeem Alsabah. Our auditions are usually closed and by invitation only. So, don't sit on the sidelines & miss this opportunity! Take a deep breath, get up your nerve, and attend the information meeting!

Note: There will never be an audition for our two professional troupes, as we recruit and promote from within, i.e. all Nazeem Allayl and Nazeem Almassah dancers are former Nazeem Alsabah members.

Note: The auditions are open to current students only; While in theory anyone could apply, you will not make it past the first round if you do not know any of the choreographies that our studio teaches, and we would also question your sincerity as to why you want to join a troupe that you know nothing about, so de facto, the auditions are for our students only.

Agenda

We will have an informational meeting @ the PMTR Studio on Friday, March 20th 2009, 8-10pm for those interested in Auditioning for Nazeem Alsabah. The meeting should last approximately 2 hours. We will discuss the details of the auditions, what will be expected of you, & what you can expect of us. We will also talk about what it's like to be a member of Nazeem Alsabah, as well as the financial and time committment involved.

Any questions?

Frequent Questions

How does the audition process work?
There is no set answer, since we customize the audition process each time depending on who auditions and who we are looking for. In general terms, depending on the dance background, we will test the candidates on their dance skills and potential. Of course we expect an intermediate student to be much better at technique than a beginner student, so we adjust for that.
So while the details might change, you can expect the following:
  • Physical Fitness Screening: Can you physically do certain moves and do you have the required stamina.
    Date & Time: Saturday 4-18-09 3:00pm @ Pmtr
  • Technique Clinic: We will teach you the techniques that are required for the dance (see below)
Choreography Clinic: You will learn a brand new, never before taught choreography that you and the other auditioners will perfect & perform at the actual auditions.
    Date & Time: 5-2-09 & 5-3-09. 1:30pm – 4:30pm (approximate end time) @ Pmtr
  • Audtions Part 1: You will demonstrate your technical skills
    Date & Time: 5-9-09. Start time: 1:30pm @ Pmtr
  • Audtions Part 2: You will demonstrate your dance skills by performing a choreography
Date & Time: 5-9-09. Immediately following the Technique Stations @ Pmtr
  • Audtions Part 3: Interview
Date & Time: 5-10-09, individual time slots @ Pmtr

I just started learning bellydance, can I audition?
If you want to join Nazeem Alsabah, you should attend the information meeting no matter what your background is. If nothing else, your attendence shows us that you are interested, and when we have "closed" auditions again, we will know that you are interested.

Am I too old/young, tall/short, skinny/full figured to join?
We are looking for belly dancers, not models, though we do take models that can dance as well. You must be 18 years or older to join, and you must be physically in good shape, as you will be dancing a lot.

What are my chances to make it in?
You did not expect an answer to that question, did you? Factors that improve your chances are: You are in good shape, you are fun to be around with, you work well with other women, you are a quick learner, you are a good dancer, you have time to practice (and actually practice), you want to perform, you have danced in a show/hafla etc. before, you have a dance background as a cheerleader/ballet/etc., ...

Who is Nazeem Alsabah?

The name Nazeem Alsabah means "Breezes of the Dawn" in Arabic.Schadia founded this troupe in 2002 as an amateur organization & creative outlet for our studio’s students. It has blossomed into one of the best Middle Eastern Dance Troupes in the U.S. -- amateur or professional. We currently have twenty (20) troupe members.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for BEGINNER LEVEL & INTERMEDIATE LEVEL Nazeem Allayl Studio Students. Yes, I said beginners! :-) We are definitely not looking for a "finished product" dancer & actually tend to recruit beginners, because we have a very distict style and want troupe members who are able to easily adapt & develop their dance into that style. We are looking for fabulous Works-in-Progress!

We want students who L-O-V-E to perform, because that is what Nazeem Alsabah does. Having previous performance experience is definitely a plus - performing all forms of dance counts of course, as does cheerleading, acting, competitive sports, etc.

Nazeem Alsabah members represent our Studios & the Nazeem Allayl organization to students at all of our Studio events and to the public at festivals, charity events, and dance showcases around Atlanta. If you would like to be a Nazeem Alsabah member, you need to know that our studio is your home and the place where you want to dance.

Nazeem Alsabah is made up of members from many of different ethnicities, cultures, and walks of lives. We hope through our diversity to demonstrate that EVERY WOMAN can bellydance.

In addition to our diversity, we have a level of fitness which new troupe members need to have. Nazeem Alsabah is a group of serious DANCERS, who make dancing a major priority in their lives. Members take multiple weekly classes, rehearse long hours, and perform a lot. Our schedule is crazy hectic. You need to be in good shape, healthy, and have considerable stamina to keep up w/ us.

If you meet Nazeem Alsabah members, you will see that one of the things that unite us is our strength, our love & respect for ourselves and for other women. Female Power is definitely something we are all about! We are a big family full of sisters, sisters and more sisters. You have to loooooooooooove being around women to be in our troupes & that's for sure!
