Hafla? What's that? Hafla is basically the Arabic word for PARTY! A private hafla thrown by a belly dancer involves Middle Eastern music, dancers taking turns performing for each other, and some open-floor dancing for everyone to get up and enjoy the music. (definition paraphrased from Shira).

Location & Directions:
The Halfa will be at the Nazeem Allayl belly dance studio, Perimeter Location, 4250 Perimeter Park South, Suite 241, Atlanta GA 30341. Do not rely on mapquest. Please Use Our Directions Instead!

Who Can Come: This is a PRIVATE event for Current Students & their female friends. (In order to get tickets for the Hafla, you must be currently attending a class at least once a week at either studio. Tickets are handed out by the Instructors the previous weeks). Remember, this is a Girls Night Out! Women only. No husbands. No kids.

When is the Hafla? Sunday May 18th @ the PMTR Studio. The studio doors will open at 7:00pm. We will get started at 7:30pm. We will start on time. If you arrive casually late you might miss an amazing performance, so get there by 7:30 if you possibly can.

How Much Does It Cost: For those PERFORMING at the Hafla, it is FREE to get in AND you get soda pop & chips for free too.

For those NOT PERFORMING at the hafla, the cost is $5.00 cash at the door. Each person also needs a signed ticket from a Nazeem Allayl Studio Instructor, which you can obtain before or after class for you & your friends. Please remember to bring the ticket as well as the cash, because ya need both to get in. Refreshments & yummy junk food will be for sale (see below) .

Please do remember to bring your signed ticket, as you will need to present that at the door.

Who is Performing at the Hafla? You are girl. Didn't you know? Along with fellow students, troupe members, and your favorite instructor. You must be a current student, attending at least one class per week at either studio, in order to perform in the Hafla. It will be just us girls. It will be super fun, and we will be VERY encouraging. If you want to do a new dance that you've been working on or just jam out to the Middle Eastern song you are currently obsessed with, this is the perfect opportunity! Some students and troupe members are choreographing new dances to new music, but it is equally fabulous to break out "Mizmar" or "Jasmine." We want everyone to dance, have fun & feel the fabulous-ness!

How Do I Sign Up to Perform? You must be a current student, attending at least one class per week at either studio, in order to perform in the Hafla. You can let your teacher know before the hafla or you can sign up at the door when you arrive. Please arrive around 7:00pm if you plan to perform.

What do I wear to a Hafla? If you aren't performing, just wear something comfy & casual. If you plan to perform, you can simply put on some harem pants, a top, and a coin sash -- i.e. Class wear is fine. You are also welcome to break out a sequin costume, fab beledi dress or anything in between. Just like the music, your costume choice is completely up to you. There is no requirement. If you want to break it down in jeans you can. Do your thing, your way!

Do I Need to Bring Anything? Yes! First and most importantly, you need to bring your fabulous-ness!!! You also need to bring your complete joy of dancing & your support for your fellow students & dancers! Next, you need to BYOP - Bring Your Own Pillow to lounge while you watch the performances. If you cannot for some reason sit on a pillow, you are welcome to bring a folding chair. Please be sure it has plastic or rubber casing over the ends of the metal legs, as we don't want to scratch the dance floor. Also, please note that those with pillows will sit near the stage & those with chairs will sit further back, behind the pillow seating. It's first come, first serve.

Bottled Soda Pop, Juices, & Water ($1), as well as Chips, Doritos, Cheetos, Popcorn, etc ($.50) will be for sale at the Hafla. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks & drinks from home if you want. No alcohol is allowed. Sorry!

Remember to GET A TICKET FROM YOUR TEACHER!!! See you on Sunday!
