Sewing Circle - custom fit your costume
Friday, October 17, 2014, 06:30pm - 07:30pm

Schadia has worked on hundreds of costumes over the years, repairing and custom fitting her costumes or that of her troupe members. She has shared her skills in numerous sewing circles, and will do so again this Friday, October 17th from 7-11 at the Brookhaven Studio.

Below please find a list of things to bring to the Sewing Circle to custom fit your Dark Horse bra. I will have many of the items on the list w/ me. If you need to, you can use or borrow my stuff. The bare minimum you need is Snaps, hooks, bra & buckram or old pair of jeans. We are going to meet up around 7:30pm @ the Brookhaven Studio. If you get stuck in traffic or need to come later, that's cool. No problem!
If you'd like to bring a snack to share you are welcome. It's definitely not required though, because we will probably have tons of food. We will have around 10-12 people. If you want to bring something, think non-sticky, non-greasy stuff. We will be hand sewing & don't want to have to wash our hands every time we take a bit of something.  The only thing I know so far: someone is bringing pretzels & a meat/cheese tray.

You can find all the items on your list beside the bra @ Hancocks Fabric, JoAnn Fabric or any non-chain fabric stores that sells sewing supplies. If you don't already own a pair of needle nose pliers & the fabric store doesn't sell those, you can find them at Micheals or at any Lowe's/Home Depot/Ace Hardware.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Building Materials Needed for fitting the Dark Horse Bra

  1. Seam Ripper
  2. Gold thread
  3. Needles w/ big enough eye to double thread. (optional, can also do single threaded needle)
  4. Leather “thimble”
  5. Needle Nose Pliers*
  6. The largest Snaps you can find*
  7. A package of large hooks & eyes*
  8. Heavy Buckram to make the side straps* If you don't want to buy buckram, a pair of old jeans that you are willing to cut up works great too.
  9. Larger/normal sized Scissors designed for cutting fabric -- i.e. not the scissors out of your junk drawer or desk drawer, but the scissors you can buy at the fabric store. They can be the cheap ones, but they should not be "multi-purpose" scissors you buy at Krogers or Target.
  10. Push up Bra* w/ under wire, which is made of the thickest foam you find (see attached photo). It needs to be super padded, no matter how large your breasts are. It can not be flimsy. If you have A or B cup normally, buy a C cup & add a couple/few of inches on to the width if you can. For ex, if you are a 36B, buy a 38C.
  11. Optional: Pillow Stuffing, Bra Enhancers
